Creative print retreat Città della Pieve
Tuscany September 13 -19th 2027

5 days in Tuscany with Pauline Greuell

Come to beautiful Tuscany in September 2027 for a 5-day creative retreat stencil printing on fabric with fabric designer and printmaker Pauline Greuell.

Tuscany is a perfect inspiring place to learn to stencil print on fabric (or to further develop your printing) as you will find art and culture around every corner, as well as natural beauty in abundance.

Pauline Greuell is a designer, printer, maker and teacher from the Netherlands, self taught and with 7 years of experience in teaching online classes as well as classes at West Dean College in the UK, Selvedge Magazine and Clos Mirabel in the South West of France. She has developed a technique for layered stencil printing and pattern making on fabric that she shares in her teaching

Publications about her work include Selvedge Magazine, Uppercase Maginze, Flow Magazine and The English Home.

Explore and learn stencil printing on fabric

In this workshop you will learn all the different stages of this stencil printing process, from learning brush techniques for creating depth and texture in your prints, to working with multi stencil motifs for making more detailed prints, to eventually making repeat patterns. Whatever your style or level of experience, the course will meet you where you are and take you where you want to go.

By the end of this workshop, you will have gained the skills and confidence to continue your printing journey at home. As part of the course, you will receive a set of brushes to keep, the fabric pieces you have created, and a collection of informative materials covering the techniques explored.

A perfect place for Italian inspiration

We will stay in the small medieval town Cittá della Pieve. In the old streets adorned by overflowing flower boxes you will be able to experience Tuscan life in peace, as it is one of the few beautiful and characteristic places in the region that is not overrun by tourists. You will love to call this town your home for a few days, wander around the cobbled streets, have a coffee in the piazza and meet the locals.

We will explore the town and have some wonderful excursions while taking in inspiration, finding stylised floral motifs in Renaissance frescoes and decorative church details, as well as flowers cascading down from the balconies.

2 decades of experience in hosting Italian retreats

This retreat is hosted by Strada Toscana who have been organizing journeys and retreats in Italy for almost two decades and work together with a local guide who will accompany us through the stay, will be able to tell everything there is to know about this beautiful part of Tuscany, help us find the inspiration we are looking for and take care of practical issues.

Stay in a beautiful boutique hotel

We will stay at the beautiful boutique hotel Vannucci and have meals at several traditional trattorias. Our local guide will take us to the beautiful historic town of Pienza, as well as to the church and palazzo of Cittá della Pieve. And apart from learning to print we will also learn to make pasta together.

Inclusive of all materials

The fee for this retreat is inclusive of all necessary materials, including fabric, so you can focus entirely on your creative exploration.

“We walk into the olive grove and sit in the dry grass on the bluff. The monastery and the whole world lie before us. Purples, yellows, pinks and blues but all washed, hazy, indefinite, dreamy. The world was dissolving, vanishing. And if you half-closed your eyes, you could see yourself from afar, dissolving in the haze. You could see yourself turning into light.”
